Junior High School One Act Play
Thursday, 19 November 2009 09:40
On November 17, 2009, seventeen sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students travelled to Forsan High School to participate in their first Junior High One Act Play district contest. Four other schools participated, including Forsan, Stanton, Christoval, and Irion County.

Our thespians presented “The Steadfast Tin Soldier,” a fantasy, where toys come alive onstage. The cast and their parts are:

The Tin Soldier—Kevin Seiffert

Mother—Mari Garza

Daddy & Prince Charming Cad—Miguel Velez

Humpty Dumpty—Alyssa Corralez

Monkey—Noah Garcia

Jack-in-the-Box—Elise Martinez

Cindy, the Dancing Doll—April Padilla

The Good Fairy—Starvanna Cottrell

The Witch—Darden Morriss

The Cook & 1st Lackey—Skie Vega

2nd Lackey—German Rodarte

Sally—Camille Uranga

The crew members are:

Crystal Valdez—Lights

Cybyl Hancock—Curtain

Luna Urias—Backstage Duties & Sounds

Julie Flores—Backstage Duties & Sounds

Isela Velez—Stagehand

The play was directed by Michelle Barrandey and Pam Young. Special thanks to Patti Scott for help with the costumes, and to Julie Balcazar for her help! We are also greatly indebted to the parents and others who were so supportive and brought their students to the bus very early and picked them up very late on the 17th, as well as picking them up after every practice. We couldn’t succeed without you!

The play did not place, although it took the judge almost two hours to come to her decision, and she had much praise and only a few suggestions for improvement. The awards to our cast and crew are as follows:

Honorable Mention All Star Cast:

The Monkey—Noah Garcia

The Witch—Darden Morriss

The Dancing Doll—April Padilla

All Star Crew:

Crystal Valdez

All Star Cast:

The Good Fairy—Starvanna Cottrell

Please congratulate all these young thespians on their conduct and their performance at the contest. The play will be performed at least one more time, probably the week after Thanksgiving as a Dessert Theater, where for a small price of admission, the play will be performed, and a dessert will be provided. Dates for the performance will be in The Advocate.
