At the September 21, 2009 Regular School Board Meeting, Blake Hightower presented the district with a letter from Region 18's Executive Director, John Thomas. The letter commended CCAISD and its staff for their "hard work and commitment to improving instruction and academic excellence."
Mr. Hightower also stated that during the 2008-09 school year, 5 campuses were rated Academically Unacceptable. Van Horn High School was one of those campuses. Region 18 worked with all 5 campuses during the 2008-2009 school year that were classified as Academically Unacceptable. Van Horn High School is the only school out of the five in Region 18 that made significant academic gain and is now Academically Acceptable.
